Arthritis & Injury Care Centre are so excited to welcome Andy Hoar, Certified Pedorthist, to the Halifax foot care team as of September 2017!
Who is Andy Hoar?
Andy Hoar comes from a family that has been providing custom-made footwear and foot appliances in Halifax since 1842. Following in their footsteps (no pun intended!), Andy is a 6th generation custom shoe maker and well-known Certified Pedorthist in Halifax and Dartmouth as well as in Nova Scotia. He has worked for many years at the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Center as the Staff Pedorthist in the Amputee Clinic and Muscular Skeletal Clinic, and at the QEII as the Staff Pedorthist in the Multidisciplinary Leg Ulcer Clinic. Specializing in neuropathic conditions, Andy is highly skilled at creating or modifying footwear and orthotics, as well as prosthetic limbs and braces to meet the specific requirements of each person he sees.
Andy has done extensive work in foot wound care, mostly pertaining to diabetic ulcers. For many, he has helped prevent the loss of a limb, by developing footwear and orthotics that reduces pressure on the wound, allowing it to heal. He also develops specially-made custom footwear and orthotics for individuals with foot and ankle deformities associated with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, for example.
No matter what the condition, wearing the wrong footwear can cause serious complications. Luckily for many in Halifax and Dartmouth (or within Nova Scotia), Andy Hoar is here to help!
